    The Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) and the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) at Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine invite applications for an Assistant Professor position in molecular diagnostic science. This is a 12-month, tenure track appointment, depending on the interest and qualifications of the applicant. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (DVM or equivalent, or PhD) and research experience in molecular biology of infectious diseases. Preference will be given to candidates with a DVM or equivalent degree. Experience in development of molecular diagnostic assays and delivery of diagnostic services in an animal disease diagnostic laboratory or public health laboratory is preferred. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills are essential.

    The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to providing outstanding diagnostic service for ADDL clients. The successful candidate will be expected to direct a busy veterinary molecular diagnostic laboratory; develop and validate state-of-the-art molecular tests for application in pathogen detection and animal disease diagnosis; consult and communicate with other ADDL diagnosticians, ADDL client veterinarians, animal producers and regulatory officials; and participate in PVM outreach activities. In addition, teaching and training veterinary students, residents and graduate students is an integral part of this position.

    Scholarly activities are expected: the successful tenure track applicant will be expected to develop and sustain a funded research program in their area of interest.

    CPB has 38 faculty members and 11 of them have diagnostic service appointments in ADDL. Faculty have expertise and research interests in microbiology, virology, immunology, toxicology, parasitology, pathology, public health, epidemiology, human-animal interaction, and animal welfare science.

    Commitment to the ADDL mission of providing quality and timely diagnostic services to Indiana animal constituencies, as well as the CPB missions of discovery, learning, and engagement and the support of the College strategic plan ( are required.
