The Department of Veterinary Science at the University of Kentucky is seeking applicants for a full-time, 12-month tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with expertise in bioinformatics. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research program utilizing interdisciplinary approaches (biochemical, cellular, immunological, molecular, genomic, mathematical, computational) to investigate any discipline of relevance to equine health, but with active utilization of expertise in bioinformatics and computational biology. The research program will represent approximately 85% of effort distribution and can be focused on basic, translational (e.g. diagnostic, therapeutic) or applied (e.g. epidemiology, and formulation of prevention and control programs) research questions.
Additional expectations will include the participation in teaching undergraduate or graduate level courses consistent with the candidate’s background, to mentor undergraduate and graduate students along with postdoctoral scholars, contribute to extension and outreach programs, serve on academic committees, and to communicate with stakeholder groups. The candidate will be encouraged to establish intradepartmental research collaborations with faculty members in the Department of Veterinary Science, as well as interdepartmental research collaborations with faculty in other colleges and departments at the university. Overall, the successful candidate is expected to complement existing equine research programs and bring new research directions and expertise in areas of bioinformatics to the department in order to sustain national and international recognition of the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center and the University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The candidate will be expected to present at national and international scientific meetings, publish research findings in peer-refereed scientific journals, and publish layperson articles in equine industry media sources in a timely manner.
