The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Equine Surgery. The selected individual will provide 26 weeks of clinical service commitment in equine surgery services at the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The individual will also contribute to clinical, didactic and graduate teaching and engagement in collaborative research.

In 2017, the James L. Voss Veterinary teaching hospital saw 1386 cases through our Equine Surgery service. The Department of Clinical Sciences has a strong tradition in equine surgery with successful graduate and residency training programs that have an excellent reputation in both passing the ACVS large animal surgery boards and producing high quality research. The VTH is amidst a large fund-raising effort to construct a new, state-of-the-art Equine Hospital that will encompass a new surgical, medical and sports medicine and rehabilitation facility. Preliminary construction date is set for within the next two years.

Research and collaboration opportunities exist throughout the Department, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the University. In early 2019 we will be opening the C. Wayne McIlwraith Translational Medicine Institute, a state of the art research facility adjacent to the VTH supporting translational medical research and medical continuing education.

The preferred candidate will have a strong interest in maintaining and building a strong research program in disciplines related to equine general or orthopedic surgery. The preferred candidate will also have strong interest and ability to work in a collaborative and team environment with nearly 100 other veterinary clinicians representing over 20 different specialties.

Colorado State University, with an enrollment of over 30,000 students, is located in Fort Collins at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Less than an hour from Rocky Mountain National Park, Fort Collins is a small city of 150,000 with an excellent school system, an expansive park and natural area program with extensive biking, hiking and walking trails, and over 300 days of sunshine each year. Fort Collins has exceptional and abundant outdoor and cultural activities, and the cities of Boulder and Denver are within an hour drive.
