The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences is one of four schools in the Faculty of Sciences, located at the University’s Roseworthy campus, approximately 50km north of Adelaide. The School has a strong research, research training and teaching profile and provides undergraduate training in Animal Science and Veterinary Bioscience along with postgraduate training for Honours and Higher Degree Research students in these areas as well a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

The School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced biometrician for this part time position, to teach, train and support undergraduate and postgraduate students. The successful applicant will have opportunities for collaboration on research projects with animal and veterinary sciences at the Roseworthy Campus, including quantitative geneticists, epidemiologists and bioinformaticians.

The appointed person will develop, coordinate and deliver an undergraduate course in Research Methodology to Bachelor of Animal Science students at the Roseworthy Campus. They will also deliver statistical training workshops to support Honours students within the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences and provide a solid statistical background for Higher Degree by Research students.

The successful applicant will have opportunities to collaborate with the Biometry Hub at the University’s Waite Campus. The Hub is a research and consulting group that contributes statistical rigour to research directions in both the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences and the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, including experimental work in plant and animal sciences and biotechnologies as well as observational and modelling studies in animal and agricultural sciences.

Part-time Hours: 18.38 hours per week (0.5 FTE)
Salary: (Level B) AUD $45,709 to $54,281 per annum.
Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% applies.
Term of position: This continuing part-time position is available immediately.

Position requirements
To be successful you should have:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field of statistics or biological science
  • Experience in design and statistical analysis of biological research
  • Evidence of well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Competency in statistical computing packages
