St. Matthew’s University School (SMU) of Veterinary Medicine in the Cayman Islands is looking for a full-time faculty member who is passionate about teaching small animal soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.
The ideal candidate possesses a DVM/VMD/BVSc, and is an ACVS / ECVS board-certified or board-eligible veterinary surgeon, with extensive teaching and clinical experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to (1) coordinate and teach the relative course, (2) participate with faculty in developing case review and student grand rounds, (3) participate in lectures and labs. In addition, all faculty members are expected to participate in faculty committee, school governance, and hold office hours for student mentoring.
Starting date ideally is May 7, 2018, for the beginning of our summer semester.
The main emphasis at St. Matthew’s is education, and our faculty spend most of their time teaching, mentoring, and advising students. We offer small class size where you will know your students by name, a safe and beautiful environment, and an excellent group of colleagues for you to work with. Students spend the first seven semesters on Grand Cayman and complete their final year of clinical rotations at one of our affiliate schools in the United States or Canada.The School of Veterinary Medicine at St. Matthew’s University uses the tri-semester system and Small Animal Surgery is taught in the 7th semester.
Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with a candidate’s qualifications and experience. Salaries are not subject to income tax in the Cayman Islands. Pension, CE funding, and health benefits are provided. Vacation time occurs between semesters, providing faculty with at least 7 weeks off per year.
