Job Description Summary

The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified applicants to fill the endowed faculty position of the Bruce Pratt Endowed Eminent Scholar Chair of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery. The successful candidate will enter a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, or as a non-tenure track, non-tenure eligible Professor of Practice, depending on experience and professional qualification. The faculty member hired into this position is expected to have excellence in small animal orthopedic surgery.

Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will participate in the clinical orthopedic service within the Wilford Bailey Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital and will provide clinical and didactic instruction of veterinary students enrolled in the professional degree (DVM) program as well as house officers and graduate students at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Time devoted to clinical service and instruction and to research responsibilities will be based on the candidate’s interests. Candidates for the Professor of Practice position will have a minimum of a 0.6 FTE of clinical service with up to 0.4 of the year for other pursuits. Strong mentoring of more junior faculty and house officers is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent degree) and be credentialed as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) at the time of employment. Competitive candidates must bring excellence in research, academic clinical practice and teaching, private practice, or any combination thereof. Competitive candidates should have a history of well-developed clinical and surgical skills, leadership skills, documented expertise in teaching, and/or demonstrated notable research accomplishments in a relevant area. An advanced degree (MS or PhD) beyond the DVM degree is desired but not required. For the tenure track option, the desired qualifications would be academic merits to support the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The criteria for Professor of Practice would include a distinguished career as reflected with years of experience, professional licensure, and contributions to the profession.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Excellent communication skills are required in small group as well as large lecture hall settings. Eligibility for faculty veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama is also required.

Desired Qualifications

An advanced degree (MS or PhD) beyond the DVM degree is desired but not required.
