The Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position in Large Animal Surgery at Assistant or Associate level in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate include: quality instruction in large animal surgery to undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students; participation and organizational responsibility for the clinical teaching and service programs of the Veterinary Medical Centre; and contributions to continuing education. Scholarship and clinical research in large animal surgery will be encouraged and expected.

The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to facilities including the PET-CT, Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline and Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences. The Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine is a state-of-the-art facility serving western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. The advanced imaging equipment includes a 320 detector row Toshiba Aquilion One CT scanner, Millennium MPR/MPS Gamma Camera with Genie AcQ software, Philips BV Pulsera C-arm Fluoroscope, 2 Toshiba Aplio 300 and Philips iU22 ultrasound machines with multiple probes, 4 Sound DR systems. MRI technology includes in-house Siemens Harmony 1.5 Tesla MRI and standing equine MRI in the Ryan-Dube Equine Performance Centre which also has a high speed treadmill and an over-the-ground endoscope.

Candidates must possess a DVM degree or its equivalent and be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan. Candidates must have a postgraduate degree and must have diplomate status or credentials acceptable to the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. A minimum of 2 years experience in the didactic teaching environment is required. Applicants should have demonstrated an ability to succeed in a collaborative research and teaching environment. Excellent communication skills and teaching experience are required.

Salary bands for this position are as follows:
Assistant Professor: $93,293 to $112,109; Associate Professor: $112,109 to $130,925.
