POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Cardiology

SALARY: Dependent on qualifications and experience

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree. Board certification or eligibility in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine subspecialty of Cardiology or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine subspecialty of Cardiology is required. Clinical experience and competence in medical and interventional Cardiology is required. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching in a clinical setting is required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical: The position includes a 70% clinical commitment to the Cardiology Service in the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents in Cardiology topics; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients. The VMTH’s Cardiology Service currently has two full-time faculty cardiologists, three residents, two and a half technicians, one staff cardiologist (one-year contract), and a coordinator to support a large and diverse caseload

Teaching: The primary teaching responsibilities will be direct daily supervision and clinical instruction of senior veterinary students rotating on the Cardiology Service and resident training. Other responsibilities include participation in lectures, laboratories, and other educational activities in the DVM professional curriculum and continuing education events.

Professional Competence: Will advance the discipline of cardiology within the VMTH, as well as locally and nationally, through participation and leadership in providing high quality patient care in the hospital environment. Expected to establish a reputation for clinical excellence locally, regionally, and nationally, depending upon level of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate clinical competence in medical and interventional cardiology.

Creative Scholarship: Candidates are expected to advance the clinical discipline through creation and dissemination of new knowledge with documentation in peer-reviewed publications. Creative/scholarly activities are required for individuals in this series, but in view of the increased responsibilities for clinical service and teaching, the type of scholarly activity may focus primarily on integrating/improving clinical care, conducting clinical research studies, and/or improving veterinary medical education. Fully operational cardiovascular genetics and echocardiography laboratories are available to support clinical research endeavors. UC Davis offers incredible breadth of collaborative research opportunities and the VMTH hosts a clinical trials core.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, and other appropriate means are required. Active participation and engagement in developing/maintaining continuing education activities of the VMTH as it relates to cardiology are required.
