The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for a 12-month emergency clinician position. Requirements include a DVM degree or its equivalent and completion of an American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) residency program. The salary for this position is commensurate with an early career candidate.

The successful candidate will work with a team of 3 large animal internal medicine faculty, 4 large animal surgery faculty, and 2 large animal ultrasound specialists. Clinical service will include emergency back up for interns and medical and surgical residents on nights and weekends as part of a faculty rotation, and approximately 7 weeks daytime clinic duty on Large Animal Medicine per year. Medical and surgical cases must be managed afterhours, including all aspects of surgical colic cases, with the exception of the surgical procedure itself. A successful candidate has a strong record of communicating effectively with clients, referring veterinarians, and team members. Student teaching and intern and resident training are important components of this position. The faculty of the Hospital for Large Animals are supported by outstanding radiology, ultrasound, cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, anesthesia, and surgery services. Available equipment includes helical CT, MRI and ultrasound, and facilities include a state-of-the-art isolation unit. The caseload consists of horses (80%), camelids (10%), and small ruminants, pigs, and cattle (10%), and the majority of cases are referred. A full-time technician is dedicated to the Large Animal Medicine service and a team of technicians provides 24-hour medical care to hospitalized animals.
