The learning specialist will have a dual role of supporting students by providing training in learning skills and managing a rigorous professional curriculum and supporting faculty by providing expertise in adult learning, instructional design and assessment. This individual will support both the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Nursing programs.
Support students through their transition to the College
Develop and organize training sessions to teach students study skills and test-taking skills that are effective in rigorous medical programs.
Work with students who are struggling in courses to determine their individual challenges and help them make appropriate adjustments.
Work with students who are readmitted to PVM programs to promote their success.
Train peer tutors in the most effective teaching methods.
Collaborate with faculty, advancement professionals and administration in securing private, grant and industry funding to support student success.
Provide workshops, small group sessions and individual consultation to faculty and instructors focusing on incorporating high impact educational practices into their teaching activities, such as effective use of educational technology and student-centered teaching techniques.
Assist faculty and instructors in developing specific, observable and measurable learning objectives to support delivery of the curricula.
Assist faculty and instructors in creating assessment tools that are appropriate for their learning objectives, analyze the effectiveness of the assessments, and provide recommendations for improvement.
Develop and maintain resources to support teaching and related faculty development including development of a website for teaching resources.
Keep faculty and instructors informed of teaching and learning resources offered by central campus.
