The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) of the Université de Montréal is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in Swine Medicine. The FMV is located on the Saint-Hyacinthe campus, 60 km (37 miles) from Montreal and in the heart of the agri-food technopole. The swine sector is the second largest agri-food sector in Quebec. This sector includes approximately 2,500 production sites belonging to several integrated companies or independent producers, and comprises about 320,000 sows and 4 million growing pigs. The swine industry in Quebec also gathers more than 60 veterinarians and multiple very proactive stakeholders eager for scientific advances in order to maintain their global competitiveness.

The swine sector in the Département de sciences cliniques of the FMV is dynamic and has developed over the years several collaborations with other professionals and partners of the swine industry through the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Swine Medicine (LEMP). Several well-structured and recognized research groups also work within the FMV, namely research groups on Infectious Diseases in Animal Production (GREMIP), in Food Safety (GRESA) and in Epidemiology of Zoonoses and Public Health (GREZOSP), as well as the strategic group Center for Research in Swine and Poultry Infectious Diseases (CRIPA).

The FMV is located off campus, but maintains strong collaborative ties to other faculties at the Université de Montréal and other universities within the province. A structured mentorship program is available for newly hired professors.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire:

  • Contribute in outreach activities within the field of swine medicine (publications, conferences and others), including participation in various community services in the field;
  • Act as a reference person for partners in the swine industry at different levels of government;

We will –confidentially – adapt our recruitment mechanisms to the specific needs of people with disabilities who request it.

However, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadians and permanent residents.

    In order to measure the impact of its equity, diversity and inclusion actions, UdeM is collecting data on applicants identifying themselves with one of the groups targeted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, namely women, Aboriginal people, visible minorities, ethnic minorities and people with limitations.
