The VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) and Humane Rescue Alliance in National Capital area seeks full-time Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor. This faculty appointment will support the College’s partnership with the HRA to enhance the educational opportunities for our students in primary care setting and benefit the health and wellbeing of the animals and residents in the national capital area. HRA provides quality, affordable medical services for animals within their shelters and surrounding community. The successful candidate will supervise students assigned to the HRA clerkship and oversee educational delivery including the provision of veterinary services associated with such efforts. This clerkship is core, i.e. required of all DVM students. The successful candidate will be directly involved in the clinical instruction of professional students in the Veterinary Hospital(s) of HRA and will supervise the student experience with other veterinarians working with HRA. Students on this clerkship will be involved in the spay and neuter program of HRA as well as other medical and surgical procedures that are performed at this hospital, which include but are not limited to medical workup leading to diagnosis and treatment, preventive care including vaccinations, dental care, minor surgical procedures. The successful candidate may also help supervise students attending this facility for additional elective/track clerkships (e.g., shelter medicine or behavioral clerkship). The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching and to excellent patient management and client service. They will also be expected to participate in continuing education programs of the College and participation in faculty governance activities as needed and appropriate. Occassional travel may be required.
