This is a service to the college/university/profession expectation. This position will serve as the Director of the University of Kentucky’s Pre-veterinary Advising Program, which is in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. Quality academic advising is widely recognized for improving retention and graduation rates from universities across the country. The goals in the pre-veterinary advising program are recruiting qualified students and guiding them through the process of completing academic requirements, assisting the students in acquiring adequate veterinary experience, assisting in the veterinary school application process, and aiding in career choices regardless of acceptance status to veterinary school. This faculty member directly works with a staff Pre-veterinary Academic Coordinator as part of a team-based advising model. The College of Agriculture, Food and Environment has the largest pre-veterinary advising program in the state, and students have been successful in gaining admission not only to Auburn and Tuskegee (contract schools accepting KY residents), but also to other US and international veterinary schools. Effective and high-quality academic advising are a high priority for the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
Please include in your cover letter a statement of strategic vision for UK’s Pre-Veterinary Advising Program, teaching/instructional and student mentoring/advising approaches, relevant leadership and administrative experience, and statement of diversity, equity, and inclusion (up to 3 pages).
For full consideration please apply by April 1st, 2023. Applications will be accepted and the posting will remain open until filled.
Your references should be able to address in their professional judgement your performance as a licensed veterinarian and in advancing your scholarly field, instructional accomplishments, advising and mentoring record, and the service performed. Please also indicate your relationship to the reference.
