Overview

Tufts Comparative Medicine Services (Tufts CMS) in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research provides facilities, services, and information to facilitate effective research using laboratory animals at Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center in Boston and Tufts University in Medford. Tufts CMS is also obligated to ensure that animal care procedures and animal experimentation comply with federal, state, and local regulations. The management and operation of the animal care activities of all sites are integral to the animal care and use program. All centralized facilities are located within a 2-block radius, either in Boston or Medford and house in excess of 40,000 animals daily.

What You'll Do

The Clinical Veterinarian, under the supervision of the Senior Director, will have a primary role in CMS’ clinical, research support, teaching, and training activities.

Responsibilities include:

- Clinical Veterinary Medicine

  • Provides veterinary support to the institutional animal facilities
  • Serves as a veterinarian for CMS and research animal facilities on the Boston and Medford campuses
  • Contributes to on-call duties on a rotational basis and in the absence of other institutional veterinarian(s)

- Teaching, Training, and Compliance Programs

  • Supports teaching and training for technical staff, investigative staff, and students
  • Assists with the monitoring of compliance with regulations governing the use of animals in research

- Administration

  • Plays a role in shaping departmental policies and procedures, including written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintains alternate membership on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUC), as determined by CMS Senior Director

- Academic Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional and consultative services for faculty, staff, and affiliate researchers

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited university
  • 2+ years of experience in laboratory animal medicine
  • Veterinary licensure in at least one state with MA preferred
  • Knowledge in lab animal medicine and regulations governing animals used in biomedical research
  • Experience in a research support environment and regulations governing animal research
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must have demonstrated productivity and effective interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACLAM board eligibility or certification desired
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
  • On-call, including weeknights and weekends on a rotating schedule

Pay Range

Minimum $103,950.00, Midpoint $129,950.00, Maximum $156,000.00
 
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
