Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  •     Qualified candidates will bring new approaches, tools, and techniques to animal and veterinary sciences (AVSC) while maintaining principles of scientific illustration to their teaching. A total of 12 credits of AVSC or related courses are to be taught each term of the academic year- examples listed below- along with responsibilities  of academic advising and that of career-oriented oriented activities, including club advisement, etc. Additional teaching opportunities are possible as compliments the faculty member’s area of expertise.  Additional extension and/or research opportunities  are possible as compliments the faculty member’s area of expertise.

APSC 100 – Orientation to Animal, Poultry and Veterinary Sciences
APSC 201 – Introduction to Animal, Poultry and Veterinary Sciences
APSC 510- Lab Animal Management
APSC 302 – Dairy Science
APSC 402 – Seminar I in Animal Sciences
APSC 403 – Seminar II in Animal Sciences
Plan, advertise and organize training sessions, workshops, and field days.
Collect and compile daily accomplishments  and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
Perform assessments/evaluations of the project in a timely manner.
Prepare a comprehensive finalreport  of relevant projects.
Participate in relevant meetings, seminars, and conferences, and present the project results and outcomes as necessary.
Additional research and extension opportunities are possible to compliments the faculty member’s area of expertise.
Carry out other relevant activities as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications

A Master of Science or Ph.D. degree in animal sciences or closely related discipline.
A strong background in animal, poultry, and/or veterinary sciences
Experience  teaching in higher education                           ·
Experience mentoring undergraduate  or graduate students as well as K-12 youth

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in higher education.
Ability to teach in an interdisciplinary setting
Knowledge of animal, poultry, and veterinary sciences as related to the field of agriculture and related areas
Experience in animal production and related areas
Ability to work with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders
Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently with little supervision and a good team player.
Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Skills in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) and data analysis packages
Experience in organizing training, seminars, workshops, meetings, and/or field days
Ability to conduct impact assessments and prepare progress reports

Additional Position Information

This position does require weekend and after work hours during peak season
This position will require traveling occasionally
This position is partial basic and grant funding
This position is a full-time position
