The Department of Infectious Diseases and Global Health (IDGH) at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is in North Grafton, Massachusetts near Worcester and approximately 40 miles west of Boston. The campus is within walking distance of MBTA commuter rail service allowing access to public transportation.

Overview of Position Requirements

(i) laboratory bench experience with sterile technique such as cell culture and biosafety level 2 (BSL2); (ii) knowledge and experience with in vitro and in vivo immunological assays, (iii) experience and willingness to handling of animals in a research setting, (iv) prior experience and/or willingness to successfully complete biosafety level 3 (BSL3) and animal biosafety level 3 (ABSL3) training and perform independent experiments to generate new data using routine immunological and (v) knowledge/skills in microbiological assays to analyze various BSL2/BSL3 microbial agents of the infected hosts. This position also requires prior experience of managing data sets, statistical analyses, graphing, interpreting biological data sets and scientific writing for publications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to work on several projects and as part of a research team. Essential duties are (i) successful completion and implementation of BSL2/BSL3 work practices. The candidate must possess strong skills in oral and written communication; planning and organization to independently manage data and experimental infections; and be highly self-motivated to incorporate innovative techniques.

 

Qualifications

PhD in immunology/microbiology, biology, biochemistry, chemistry and/or related fields • Computer skills and basic computer programming in statistical and graphical methods for biological data • Experience in sterile techniques and microbiology is a must.

This position is a one-year NIH grant-funded position, with the possibility of extension. Anticipated start date is immediately, as of February 1, 2023. Salary is based on NIH recommended pay scale for post-doctoral scholars.
