The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Clinical Lecturer position in Equine Emergency Medicine and Surgery. This position offers a unique opportunity for veterinarians who have completed residency training (eg. ACVS, ECVS, ACVIM, ECEIM, ACVECC, or ECVECC) to improve their clinical skills and complete certification. If desired by the candidate and a suitable mentor is identified, the position could provide an opportunity for an additional post-graduate training such as a graduate degree or other certification. The individual selected will participate in clinical teaching and service within the Equine Section. Faculty within the equine section include an ACVS-boarded emergency clinician, 3 additional ACVS-boarded faculty including 1 each with ACVECC and ACVSMR certification, 5 ACVIM-boarded faculty, 3 ACT-boarded faculty, 1 ACVO/ECVO boarded equine ophthalmologist and a member of our radiology team with ACVR/ACVR-EDI certification. The equine caseload is predominately pleasure and sport horses.

The duties of this position are primarily emergency (after hours, weekend, and share of holidays) clinical responsibilities in support of house officers (interns, equine internal medicine and surgery residents) within the equine section of the J.T. Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital. The percentage of clinical duty will be 50-75% depending on whether-or-not the candidate wishes to pursue post-graduate research or certification training. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and interests, some daytime clinical service or ambulatory coverage may also be included in the clinical duties.

Clinical responsibilities will include independent, emergency primary care and emergency surgery (if qualified) within the equine section of the J.T. Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital. Teaching responsibilities include the clinical and didactic instructional activities of professional students in veterinary medicine and training of interns and residents. Appropriate time off clinical and emergency duty will be allotted to those individuals studying for certifying exams. For individuals seeking post-graduate research training, the incumbent must be accepted into the Auburn University Graduate School.
