Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in beef cattle health management at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in both classroom and clinical settings. Clinical duties will be assigned within the Food Animal Field Service Section in the Veterinary Medical Centre. After hours emergency duties will be shared with other clinicians.
The state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine serves western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. The recently established Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence is a newly-constructed, world-class research facility serving the research, education and technology transfer needs of the Canadian beef cattle industry. Facilities available to support research and extension activities include a metabolism unit and a research feeding facility consisting of 42 small (15 head) and 4 large (200 head) pens, as well as modern feeding, handling and sorting equipment. The centre also houses up to 500 beef cows. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and have access to facilities across campus including those at VIDO-Intervac. The University of Saskatchewan also has the benefit of a full complement of Health Sciences.

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and be eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan. The successful candidate must also have an MSc (MSc equivalent or PhD) and be eligible for American Board of Veterinary Practitioner certification (or equivalent). A minimum of two years of food animal (including beef cattle) veterinary experience is needed. Familiarity with beef cattle industry in North America is essential. Applicants must have a proven commitment to high quality teaching and research. Applicants should have demonstrated an ability to succeed in a collaborative research and teaching environment. Excellent communication skills and teaching experience are required. Teaching duties will include courses offered by the WCVM to undergraduate veterinary students, and pre-veterinary students enrolled in the College of Agriculture.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a sustainable research program focused on beef health and production research. Ultimately, this research will result in publication in peer reviewed scientific journals and be related back to veterinarians/producers through continuing education programming.
Salary bands for this position are as follows:
Assistant Professor: $96,301 to $115,723; Associate Professor: $115,723 to $135,145.
