The Veterinary Administration Department in the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM) invites applications for Director of the Veterinary Nursing Program. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track or clinical-track faculty position. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Candidates with an MS or PhD degree in a field related to veterinary medicine are preferred for a tenure-track position.
The Program Director will lead the world-class veterinary nursing program and manage its operation, including the admissions process, curriculum oversight, outcomes assessment and budget, and oversee an administrative and teaching staff. The Director is responsible for ensuring that the program meets the accreditation requirements of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) and complying with all CVTEA reporting requirements. The Program Director serves as a member of the senior leadership of the veterinary college as well as a liaison with veterinarians, veterinary technicians/nurses and technologists, other veterinary technology programs, the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the Indiana Veterinary Technician Association. The Program Director is expected to participate in state and national activities that advance the status of the Program and the veterinary nursing profession. As a faculty member, the Program Director will be expected to demonstrate scholarship congruent with the goals of the Program and PVM. Teaching responsibilities will be assigned in an area of interest or expertise.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a DVM, VMD, or BVSc degree. Candidates should have experience in the veterinary profession through which they have gained a good understanding of the veterinary nursing/technology profession. Candidates should have a diverse skill set including excellent communication skills, team management skills, administrative skills, and leadership skills. The successful candidate should have a progressive and innovative attitude, the ability to create a positive work environment, and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administration to achieve program goals. They should promote a diverse and inclusive environment. The candidate should be organized and detail-oriented to successfully monitor compliance with accreditation requirements including submitting required reports. The candidate should have a basic understanding of finances and business management so that they may responsibly manage the program budget. Experience working and teaching in a veterinary nursing program is preferred.
The College: PVM is unique in offering on-campus Associate of Applied Science and Bachelor of Science degree programs and a distance learning Associate of Applied Science degree program in veterinary nursing within a college of veterinary medicine. The on-campus veterinary nursing students rotate through all areas of the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), a primary care and referral hospital, where they are supervised by credentialed veterinary nursing staff, veterinary technician specialists, and board-certified veterinary specialists. Our veterinary nursing graduates have consistently high pass rates on the national licensing examination (VTNE) and high job placement rates with many going on to become leaders in the profession.
