The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, invites applications for an exciting new full-time faculty opportunity in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. The position will be offered at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, dependent on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will be in our non-tenure track line as a clinical faculty member.

The College is opening an onsite clinic at the World Equestrian Center, a high profile 300-acre equine facility in Ocala, 30 minutes south of Gainesville, with the potential for more than 2,000 resident horses. The Ocala hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including standing CT, MRI and PET scanning; digital radiography; ultrasonography; and dynamic endoscopy. Rehabilitation and physical therapy equipment includes aqua treadmills, cold water spa therapy, vibration therapy, dry-salt room, solarium, LASER, and other standard therapies. The successful candidate will share the primary caseload with an additional ACVSMR boarded, an ACVSMR-ACVS boarded, and an EDI-ACVR boarded clinicians, and although spending most of their time in Ocala, may spend some clinical time at our Gainesville campus hospital working with five ACVS board-certified surgeons. Work at both sites will be supported by other faculty in the Department, as well as interns and residents.

Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. The successful candidate will be expected to have appropriate qualifications, a minimum of five years of experience in equine sports medicine practice, and experience to act independently in this environment.

The appointee would be assigned approximately 80% of their time in clinical service. Duties include the management of referral and direct access cases in Ocala and Gainesville, including some weekend coverage at the Ocala site. Teaching responsibilities will include clinical supervision of veterinary students at both sites, and involvement of relevant courses in the veterinary curriculum. Active participation in the residency and internship training programs and the contribution to the improvement of clinical instruction and service is expected. Opportunities for independent or collaborative research activities exist. The appointee is expected to be involved in professional outreach and committee service. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
