Two Teaching Faculty Positions in Microbiology and Immunology

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University seeks two faculty members on the Lecturer track for full-time instruction in our DVM, graduate, and undergraduate curriculums.

Position 1. A successful candidate will play a leadership role teaching in the pre-clinical class Foundation Course IV Host, Agent, and Defense and graduate and undergraduate courses in bacterial pathogenesis and virology, with additional contributions to other courses, and to college curricular processes and initiatives. Foundation Course IV: Host, Agent, and Defense is a preclinical multidisciplinary course encompassing microbiology, virology, immunology, epidemiology, pharmacology, clinical pathology, and anatomic pathology. The course uses problem-based learning to provide a foundation in basic sciences within a veterinary clinical context.

Position 2. A successful candidate would have a strong interest and training in parasitology and would help to deliver veterinary parasitology teaching efforts and curriculum evaluation, with additional contributions to other courses, and to college curricular processes and initiatives.

Required Qualifications: PhD in a biomedical science related field, and/or DVM, MD or equivalent, with a passion for both basic sciences and strong understanding of infectious diseases (bacterial, viral and/or parasitic diseases). DVMs are encouraged to apply given the strong focus on the veterinary curriculum.

Specific and general responsibilities of the successful teaching track candidate include:

  • Providing instruction in Foundation Course IV or Veterinary Parasitology, including facilitating small group learning, lecturing, and supporting laboratory-based learning.

  • Service on the Curriculum Design Group for Foundation Course IV, contributing to course oversight, updates, assessment writing, and grading. This will include serving as the Foundation Course Leader on a rotating basis.

  • Leading and providing instruction in one or more undergraduate/graduate courses in bacteriology, virology and/or parasitology.

  • Contributing to pre-clinical, graduate, and undergraduate teaching in other courses based on college needs.

  • Contributing to college curricular initiatives and committees based on college needs and candidate expertise.

  • Pursuing ongoing professional development to advance the understanding of evidence based educational practices and continually improve teaching quality.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $140,000 and will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience. Review of applications will begin mid-April, until the position is filled.
