Applications and nominations are invited for the above posts:

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health was established in July 2017.  Its mission is to achieve and sustain excellence in teaching and research in veterinary studies through advancing the understanding of the interconnectivity of animal and human health.  The Department is well positioned to provide a strong link between the preclinical veterinary sciences and applied (clinical) veterinary medicine.  In another dimension, it focuses on One Health, an area spanning the health of animals, humans and the environment.  The Department plays a key role in teaching students in the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM), Master of Science in Public Health and Research Degree Programme (PhD).  Departmental academic staff members undertake teaching and research across their areas of specialty, and are actively engaged in enhancing the profile and effectiveness of veterinary training, public health and applied research through partnership and strengthening links with industry, business, commerce and other institutions locally and internationally.

The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences and the Department are looking for a highly motivated and qualified staff that will contribute to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  We are looking for energetic individuals with a background in virology to teach virology to the BVM students and lead on virology related research subjects, preferably, but not uniquely, centered around ‘One Health’ related issues.

Duties

The appointees are expected to support the overall academic missions of the College and the Department, facilitate further development of research programmes and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Requirements

A PhD in a relevant discipline (virology).  Applicants with a veterinary degree are preferred.  Candidates should have demonstrable evidence of research success (including publications in internationally-recognized journals and the ability to obtain research funding) and strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively as a member of an academic team.  Candidates for the post of Professor should possess a proven record of distinguished scholarly accomplishments including significant external funding support, strong leadership capabilities, and active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
