    The Department of Medical Sciences of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a tenure- or clinical-track, full-time, 12-month position within the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service at the Small Animal Clinic of our teaching hospital, UW Veterinary Care. The successful candidate will join other board-certified clinicians providing clinical service within the Small Animal Hospital on the UW-Madison campus. UW Veterinary Care is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board certified experts in Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery, Exotic Animal Medicine, Dentistry/Oral Surgery, and Emergency and Critical Care. Excellent support services are available in Clinical Pathology, Pathology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Anesthesiology.

    Clinical and tenure track faculty at the University of Wisconsin are expected to participate in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents; participate in continuing education programs; and to conduct basic science or clinical research that advances the field of small animal internal medicine. The successful candidate will participate in the clinical activities of the hospital including the provision of patient care and instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns and residents. Willingness to consult with referring veterinarians and clients is vitally important.

    Approximately 22,600 small animal patients are evaluated at UW Veterinary Care annually. The current SAIM caseload is approximately 2,500 cases per year.

    DVM (or equivalent) is required; ACVIM board certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine (SAIM) required; MS or PhD desirable. Successful candidate must be eligible to obtain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin.

    Academic experience beyond residency training is preferred. Relevant specialty practice experience can be substituted. Demonstrated aptitude in clinical instruction of DVM students, interns, and residents is expected. Distribution of effort in the section and the Department will be determined in accordance with service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate's expertise and academic goals. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with all sections of the hospital and department.

    Tenure track: 25% clinical responsibilities, 25% non-clinical teaching, 40% research, 10% service

    Clinical track: 45% clinical responsibilities, 20% non-clinical teaching, 25% research, 10% service

    Clinical responsibilities: Clinical service to the SAIM section of UW Veterinary Care; training and supervision of residents and interns; clinical teaching of 4th year veterinary students; Non-clinical teaching responsibilities: Didactic and laboratory course teaching; Research responsibilities: Contribute to and participate in basic or clinical research in the SAIM section, including mentoring of house officers in research; Service responsibilities: Involvement in committees at the Department, School, and University level, along with involvement nationally at the professional committee level. Participate in continuing education programs for veterinary practitioners in Wisconsin and beyond.
