  • Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Food Animal Epidemiology
    Veterinary Pathobiology

    The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) at Texas A&M University, in collaboration with West Texas A&M University, is seeking applicants for a tenure-track, full-time position in food animal epidemiology. Salary and academic rank (assistant, associate or full professor) will be commensurate with training and experience. The overall goal of this position is to benefit the food animal industry and its stakeholders as part of a larger program to promote both the industry and rural veterinary medicine. The individual selected for this position will be a critical team member at the Veterinary Education, Research and Outreach (VERO) Program (, an exciting new collaborative initiative in the heart of one of the most productive animal agricultural regions in the world. The Texas A&M System is investing nearly $110 million in new facilities in Canyon, Texas to promote the future of agriculture and animal health in the region. The new state-of-the-art VERO Center is one part of this initiative, and is co-located with West Texas A&M University’s new Agricultural Sciences Complex and a new Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. The successful applicant will be a key member of the growing VERO team, working with other university leaders and industry partners in guiding the development and growth of this novel initiative.

    The successful candidate must have a PhD degree and relevant record of scholarship related to the position focus, or a DVM degree with specialty training and an extensive track record of research publication and grant funding. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience. Candidates to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor are expected to have an established, extramurally funded research program. Candidates to the rank of Assistant Professor should have a superb record of research excellence and strong potential for obtaining competitive extramural grants to support their research. Candidates with expertise pertinent to North American livestock and food production systems, especially knowledge and experience in beef and dairy production systems, will be given preference. Candidates with experience in independently securing extramural research support, actively participating in collaborative team-based research, conducting applied research regarding practical problems affecting food animal production, consulting on important problems affecting food animal populations, and teaching and mentoring students about their disciplinary focus will also be given preference. This position is expected to establish and maintain an energetic, extramurally well-funded research program, maintain a strong record of peer-reviewed publication, support “team science” while engaging in interdisciplinary and collaborative research, and teach and mentor students in the graduate, professional veterinary and/or undergraduate degree programs. Participation in outreach and continuing education is encouraged.

    Members of the VERO team are expected to support each other to promote the VERO Mission, and must have strong positive interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated record of promoting highly collegial and collaborative team interactions. The successful candidate will have experience, knowledge and skills that include - but are not limited to - conducting epidemiological research, ability to independently secure extramural research support, consulting on important health and production-related problems affecting animal populations, and teaching epidemiology and population health related subjects to graduate and veterinary students.

    VERO Program faculty have academic homes in different departments within the CVMBS. This position will be housed within the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology ( Approximately 50-60% of expected effort for this position will be assigned to Research/Scholarship, 25-35% to Teaching, and 15% to Academic and Professional Service.
