    Description

    The Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health combines four important areas of expertise within Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. These are public/population health, international medicine, wildlife and conservation medicine and infectious disease research. The alignment of these areas promotes cross-disciplinary strengths that are important in achieving the department's goal of improving human, animal and ecosystem health locally, nationally and internationally. Much of the research in the Department aims to advance understanding of the biology and host interaction of pathogens, particularly those causing enteric disease, and to use this information to develop immunotherapy and vaccines against the pathogens. Additionally, investigators within the department work with partners in the US and overseas on global health programs intended to prevent, detect and respond to emerging pandemic threats.

    Lead the overall technical, organizational, training and research components of research or field project. Serve as the technical scientific consultant on a specific phase of a more complex scientific study or field program delivery. Conduct joint project planning with partners. Make independent decisions as it relates to a specific scientific field and solve problems using standard principles, procedures, and techniques for their scientific area of expertise. Develop projects and plans to implement new scientific methods. Provide technical, training and research support to research and other project partners. Provide technical support to the test business delivery model implementers on livestock value chains and animal health services in international settings. Provide technical oversight and lead the implementation of studies, analyses, review or evaluations related to the vaccine delivery models and evaluations. Contribute original research published in peer-reviewed journals and is responsible for narrative project reports based on project needs and reporting requirements. As applicable, participate in teaching, research, and mentoring of junior scientists, including providing research guidance. Supervise all Tufts country-specific international project personnel. Contribute to project budgeting and oversight of country-specific project expenditures.


    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    A PhD or DVM is required along with 5 or more years of experience as a Scientist II. This individual has made significant contributions to related scientific research and scholarship though contributions published in peer-reviewed journals. Have demonstrated potential as an independent research and/or field scientist and has secured steady external funding from government and/or other peer-reviewed sources. This Scientist should have at least 10 years of experience of project management and coordination involving multiple government and non-government entities. Participates in mentoring and training junior scientists and supervising both staff and contractors.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Masters degree in tropical veterinary medicine or similar subject
    At least five years of administrative experience related to international projects
    At least 15 years of experience of the policy and institutional arrangements in international settings for veterinary vaccine production and delivery, with a focus on Ethiopia
    At least 15 years of experience of designing and implementing international veterinary field research, with a focus on Ethiopia
    At least 15 years of experience of providing senior-level policy support to international governments, with a focus on the Ethiopian government
