  • Tenure Track Faculty Researchers
    Physiology and Pharmacology
    University of Georgia

The University of Georgia (UGA) is recruiting a cluster of outstanding tenure track faculty researchers to join an expanded focus on neurodegenerative disease research at the University. These newly recruited faculty members, led by the Isakson Chair, will conduct cutting-edge research on Parkinson’s disease and associated neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias at UGA under the umbrella of the Center for Brain Science and Neurological Disorders (CBSND). As Phase-1 of the faculty cluster hire to this new initiative, CBSND seeks to recruit two tenure-track faculty members this academic year. One position is targeted for an established investigator at the level of Full Professor with an endowed professorship title. The second faculty position will be at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are seeking outstanding researchers that embrace interdisciplinary approaches from diverse fields including neurobiology, cell and molecular biology, genomics and epigenomics, pharmacogenomic/personalized medicine, metabolic bioengineering, translational discovery, and computational neurosciences/neuroinformatics  that can ultimately lead to novel mechanism-based therapeutic strategies and early diagnostic biomarker modalities. The successful candidates at the Full or Associate Professsor level should have robust research programs that are well supported by extramural funding sources in the area of neurodegeneration or a related field. At the Assistant Professor level, successful candidates should possess a well developed research plan and clearly exhibit the potential for establishing a vigorous research program. These faculty positions are required to actively contribute to graduate and undergraduate training and teaching.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD, DVM or equivalent degree and 2-3 years of post-doctoral experience in neuroscience or a related field as outlined above. All candidates must also have publication and funding records appropriate for the rank. Preference will be given to candidates with research programs that complement the existing expertise in CBSND.  For information about the requirements for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate and Full Professor, please see the UGA Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure at https://provost.uga.edu/_resources/documents/Faculty_Affairs/faculty_hiring_and_appointments/guidenlines_revised_spring_14.pdf.

Qualified applicants should submit: (1) a letter of intent, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research and teaching statements, and (4) the contact information for at least three references. Candidates are encouraged to identify their strengths/experiences in these areas as it relates to teaching, research and/or service in their cover letter. The positions open until filled. An attractive start-up package with competitive conditions of employment will be offered. The anticipated start date is 1 August 2022.  Please apply at https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/245331.

UGA is currently ranked among the top 20 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. The vibrant research community at UGA provides ample opportunities for collaborations with investigators in other departments and centers.

For questions related to these positions, please contact Dr. Anumantha Kanthasamy, Director and Isakson Chair of the Center for Brain Sciences and Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Georgia via email at Anumantha.Kanthasamy@uga.edu.
