My research interests are metabolism, physiology, and the interplay with nutritional immunology in transition phases. The goal of my research is to facilitate the understanding of beneficial as well as maladaptive mechanisms in times of negative nutrient balance, and how we can improve physiological functions including immune function during this time of stress. The methods to address these questions span a wide range from mechanistic studies in target cells or tissues to a variety of epidemiological study designs.
