The number of neurotransmitter receptors at synapses is a critical determinant of the strength of synaptic signaling, ultimately impacting learning and memory. Receptors are synthesized in the cell body of neurons and can be differentially delivered to and removed from synapses, some of which can be hundreds of microns away
