The "Dogs helping dogs" research program uses samples from veterinary patients and healthy pet dogs to improve diagnosis and treatment of common canine diseases. Current research is focused in two areas: (1) investigation of the pathophysiology of canine disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and heat stroke, with the aim of discovering novel prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets in these life threatening conditions and (2) improving veterinary patient safety by developing strategies to improve the accuracy of laboratory results and point of care testing.
