He has many interests, but currently has funded research in humoural immunity and immunoglobulin in foals, humans and other neonates, arthritis diagnosis and management in horses and dogs, and prostate cancer diagnosis. In addition to being a Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery, Prof Riley has participated in, trained, and led veterinary humanitarian teams in to Bolivia, Haiti and Peru.
