POSITION

For those with an interest in teaching a small cohort of veterinary students in an experiential integrated curriculum, the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences (VIBS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/) at Texas A&M University offers a full-time academic professional track (non-tenure) faculty position at the rank of Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, or Instructional Professor (11-month appointment). The selected candidate will be part of a team of faculty dedicated to teaching veterinary students in the VMBS’s DVM 2+2 program at the Veterinary Education, Research & Outreach (VERO) center on the campus of West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) in Canyon, Texas. Developed as part of Texas’ commitment to animals and agriculture, VERO represents a dynamic partnership between the VMBS and WTAMU. It is situated in one of the most productive animal agricultural regions in the world—the Texas Panhandle and Plains—home to the highest density of cattle in the United States. Approximately 30% of the nation’s beef cattle are fed or finished in this region, with an additional 2.5 million beef cattle and over 300,000 dairy cattle present at any given time.

Candidates with a passion for veterinary education are encouraged to apply. This full-time position has a negotiable start date with an expected appointment beginning January 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Texas A&M University is aware that attracting and retaining exceptional faculty often depends on meeting the needs of two careers and having policies that contribute to work-life balance. A university-led support initiative is in place to assist partners or spouses in securing employment within the Canyon area. For more information, visit https://facultyaffairs.tamu.edu/resources/dual-career-program.html.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will have an academic home in VIBS and will collaborate with faculty based at VERO and College Station to administer the 2+2 veterinary curriculum. Students in the DVM 2+2 program spend the first two years at VERO and return to College Station for the final two years of veterinary education.  The 2+2 curriculum is highly integrated and experiential, making it ideal for individuals with an interest in small-group teaching and active learning strategies. The successful applicant will be expected to devote approximately 90% effort to teaching and approximately 10% effort to scholarship and/or service activities.  Scholarship may include collaborative research or scholarship of teaching and learning in the candidate’s area of interest.  The successful applicant will join an active, clinically relevant veterinary anatomy teaching group with expertise in all aspects of veterinary anatomy.  Primary teaching responsibilities will be coordination and delivery of the large animal (horse, ruminant, pig, and chicken) anatomy course, with collaboration in the small animal (dog/cat) anatomy course. Anatomy instruction will occur in the first two semesters of the 2+2 veterinary curriculum and will be provided to a small cohort of eighteen veterinary medical students.  The successful applicant will be expected to teach in other courses to reinforce content related to their subject matter expertise across the 2+2 program. Assistance with other courses is anticipated when anatomy instruction can be helpful and/or reinforced.  Faculty members are expected to commit to holding themselves and colleagues accountable to the VMBS code of professional conduct.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree, and be capable of delivering highly effective, clinically relevant, professional gross anatomy instruction.
  • Documentation of teaching must demonstrate prior responsibility for both lecture and laboratory-based instruction, or unique teaching experiences that can be carried forward from clinical veterinary practice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to applicants that have demonstrated a strong record of excellence in teaching.
  • Documentation of prior productivity in scholarship or service within the veterinary medical community is helpful but not required.

SALARY

Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested candidates must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, personal statement of prior teaching experience, responsibility, and philosophy, and names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of at least five references.
