Description
Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for a clinical-track faculty position in veterinary ophthalmology. Anticipated percentage time allocations for this position are 75% clinical service/teaching and 25% academic time. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training and experience; Cummings School also has a progressive external consulting policy allowing for salary supplementation.

The successful candidate will join two other ophthalmologists, two residents, and a team of dedicated technicians on the ophthalmology service, which operates within the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and also serves the Hospital for Large Animals and the Wildlife Clinic. Both hospitals are located in North Grafton, MA and are part of Cummings Veterinary Medical Center, which serves the New England region and has a high and varied caseload.

The ophthalmology service is supported by outstanding anesthesia, critical care, diagnostic imaging, and pathology services. Available state-of-the-art equipment includes a table mounted Topcon slit lamp with digital photography capabilities, fundic camera, electroretinography unit, service-dedicated ultrasound with 12-, 20-, 35- and 50-MHz probes, two Zeiss operating microscopes, Bausch & Lomb Stellaris phacoemulsification unit, two cryo units (N02 and liquid-N), diode laser with indirect headset, and Peschke Velvet crosslinking system.

Clinical responsibilities include supervision of the service and support of residents on emergency duty. Enthusiasm for teaching is a requirement for this position. Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, participation in preclinical labs, and instruction of residents and interns in all aspects of ophthalmology, primary case management, and oversight of patients. We strive to maintain a collaborative environment for clinical and basic research, and all scholarly activity is valued in the school’s promotions process.

We value work-life balance and collegiality. We are a friendly and interactive hospital and we seek a new colleague who excels clinically and academically but who also likes to have fun at work and build strong relationships with coworkers. New England is a beautiful place to live with easy access to culture and nature, and local school districts are highly regarded. This position is available immediately.

Qualifications
Requirements include a DVM degree or its equivalent and completion of an American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) residency. Preference will be given to individuals who are already ACVO board certified, although we welcome applications from those in the final stages of residency training.

Application Instructions
An initial review of applications will take place after August 1st, 2019 but the search will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Applicants should submit a letter of intent outlining their interests, experience, and qualifications; a current curriculum vitae; and the names of three professional references via Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/64724. Inquiries about the position can be directed to Dr. Stephanie Pumphrey at stephanie.pumphrey@tufts.edu.
