The Department of Veterinary Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University, invites applications for a full-time tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track (clinical) position with a 11-month academic faculty appointment in Equine Theriogenology. Applicants will be considered for the ranks of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor depending on qualifications. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and meet requirements for licensure in the State of Texas. Board certification or eligibility for certification by the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT) or the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) is required. The appointment will begin as soon as possible following identification of the successful candidate.

The Equine Theriogenology Service is located in a state-of-the-art veterinary teaching hospital that includes well-staffed and equipped laboratories and teaching facilities that are devoted to equine reproductive research and clinical activities. Laboratory activities are conducted in connected spacious oocyte/embryo and semen laboratory spaces that are immediately adjacent to the clinical facility. These cooperative laboratories provide clinical, research and teaching opportunities for faculty, students (undergraduate, graduate and veterinary), and post-doctoral/visiting scientists and practicing veterinarians. The equine theriogenology program in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has achieved international prominence in the discipline and the successful candidate is expected to initiate interactions with existing faculty and staff to further strengthen this leading stature.

Included in the teaching and research programs are a University herd of approximately 40 mares and 10 stallions. In addition, the Service provides equine reproductive management of approximately 120 mares and 8 stallions for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The clinical cases in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital are highly varied and entail in-house patient management, with a focus on advanced reproductive techniques, as well as mail-in offerings for endometrial biopsy interpretation and assessment of sperm quality.

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences and associated Large Animal Teaching Hospital at Texas A&M University currently have 1 full-time ACT Diplomate with equine focus and 2 ACT Diplomates with food animal focus.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in independent and collaborative manners to the teaching, research and patient-care missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. The Section focuses on both stallion and mare reproduction through clinical and research pursuits. Stallions and mares are used as models to study gamete biology with a focus on translational techniques that benefit the horse industry. In addition to teaching and clinical activities, our equine theriogenology faculty members have enthusiastically participated and presented research findings at national and international venues.

The Interdisciplinary Faculty of Reproductive Biology (IFRB) is a campus-wide organization that includes faculty members from all 5 departments of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, as well as numerous other departments across campus. This body, through active forums, provides faculty and trainees broad exposure to a range of collaborative opportunities.

Contribution to the education of equine theriogenology residents and graduate students is a high priority. The Section has two full-time residents and the successful candidate is expected to provide mentorship towards all aspects of resident training as preparation for ACT certification.

The successful candidate will be apportioned to clinical service, scholarly works, and didactic/laboratory/clinical teaching according to both service and candidate needs and strengths, and will actively participate in professional outreach efforts, committee service, and curriculum development. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
